A NOVEL SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF CARBARYL PRESENT IN VARIOUS ENVIRONMENTAL SAMPLES ......

For the determination of carbaryl pesticide, carbaryl from various environmental samples, a novel and more sensitive approach has been devised. Carbaryl's alkaline hydrolysis produces 1-naphthol, which is then diazotized in an alkaline medium with diazonium salts of 4-bromoaniline. The insecticide was combined with DBA to produce a yellow dye. At 517 nm, the absorbance maxima of the yellow-colored dye produced is measured. Beer's law is followed in a final volume of 25 mL with carbaryl concentrations ranging from 0.5 to 8.0 g mL-1. 6.71105 L mol-1 cm-1 and 0.0301 g cm-2 were discovered to be the molar absorptivity and Sandell's sensitivity, respectively. In order to optimise the reaction conditions, some variables were investigated. The findings of the experiments show that the process can remove the basic interferences caused by other pesticides and non-target ions, making the method more sensitive. This approach has been used to determine carbaryl in water, soil, rice, vegetables, and various outdoor environmental samples with great effectiveness.
