AGROFORESTRY IN MBOKOMU WARD IN KILIMANJARO REGION, TANZANIA: ITS ADVANTAGES, CHALLENGES AND PROSPEC

This report describes the conclusions of a study that looked at the benefits, problems, and opportunities of agroforestry in the Kilimanjaro region's Mbokomu ward. Several studies have been conducted in various parts of Tanzania, but none have been conducted in Mbokomu ward to determine the benefits, problems, and possibilities of agroforestry. The primary goal of this paper is to investigate the effects of agroforestry on livelihoods and the environment. Data was gathered from both primary and secondary sources. Questionnaires, interviews, direct observations, and documentary review were used to gather data. A total of 90 people from three villages, Tema, Korini Juu, and Korini Kusini, were asked to fill out the questionnaires. Descriptive (content) analysis and MS Excel were used to analyse the data. Agroforestry provides food, money, building materials, fodder, firewood, and work, according to the findings. Agroforestry also provides indirect benefits such as shade, climate regulation, rainfall attraction, and soil moisture regulation. The data, however, reveal that the future of agroforestry is difficult to forecast because the most enthusiastic teenagers and adults who could improve agroforestry have fled to urban regions in search of new jobs, leaving only women and the elderly in rural areas. Rural people should be empowered through education, financing, and a steady market and price for their produce, according to the report. People may be enticed to reside and stay in rural areas if these are implemented.
