ASSESSMENT OF CONSTRAINTS CONFRONTED BY POULTRY FARMERS AND CRISIS MANAGEMENT PRACTICES DURING COVID
The COVID-19 outbreak and subsequent shutdown have wreaked havoc on the worldwide livestock industry, causing unprecedented panic and misery. During pandemic conditions, poultry farmers faced a variety of challenges. In May 2020, a research was done in Bangladesh's Brahmanbaria area to analyse the constraints faced by farmers and their crisis management strategies. A total of 100 poultry farmers were chosen at random, and data was gathered using the direct interview approach. Statistical tools such as frequency and percentage were used to examine socioeconomic data. Garret's ranking technique was utilised to examine and rate the constraints of chicken farming from I to X, and percent analysis was used to rank management practises. The difficulty in marketing poultry goods constraint was ranked first in the results analysis, with Garret's score of 63.30. Transportation issues with poultry products (feed, live birds, chicks, meat, egg, medicine, and so on) and rumours that the corona virus spreads through birds were placed second and third, respectively. Constraints included poor chicken product pricing (4th), non-availability of chicks (5th), high input costs (6th), lack of knowledge (7th), lack of financial support (8th), feed supply scarcity (9th), and lack of veterinary facilities (10th). The pandemic pushed poultry producers to change their disease control practises, such as treating sick birds over the phone (15%), through the farmer's community (25%) and through veterinary services (55 percent ). Commercial feed was still used for 83 percent of the time, but mixed feed (12 percent) was also used to save money. In terms of product marketing, middlemen were the most common customer (25%) followed by selling to local markets (20%), wholesalers (15%), small and medium farmers who supplied local retailer shops (15%), and straight to the consumer (15%). (10 percent ). Poultry industries around the world will continue to face constraints, making management the most important issue for the industry's strategic future.
