The research looked at the ECOWAS region's potential for food commerce. The information utilised in the analysis was secondary. The data, which came from the FAOSTAT statistics database of the Food and Agricultural Organization, spanned a 43-year period between 1970 and 2012. According to the report, food exports by all member nations accounted for 5.0 percent of ECOWAS intra-regional trade between 1970 and 2012. According to the report, all of the area's countries have yet to completely realise their potential in the trade of food commodities within the region. Policy improvements to encourage intra-regional food commerce, such as the creation of new bilateral trade agreements and the strengthening of existing ones, were advocated.
