AUTECOLOGY OF Chiliadenus montanus AS A THREATENED PLANT SPECIES GROWING IN SAINT KATHERINE PROTEC..

Chiliadenus montanus (Vhal.) Brullo is a rare medicinal plant that grows in the Saint Katherine district of Egypt's South Sinai. Due to its effective bioactivity, it is prone to overgrazing and collected by Bedouins for its great medicinal potential in treating various ailments. This study aims to investigate the environmental factors affecting C. montanus growth and distribution across its distribution range in the St. Katherine Protectorate by (a) measuring plant cover of different plant species in selected locations (sites) and stands (quadrates), (b) recording different environmental parameters, and (c) analysing some soil physical and chemical properties. The results demonstrated that C. montanus thrives at high elevations in fissures of mountains on alkaline soil with high bicarbonate and organic matter content, low proportion of silt and clay, and low moisture content in the selected sites ranging from 1745 m a.s.l. to 2015 m a.s.l.
