BIOSORPTION OF THORIUM FROM AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS BY Moringa oleifera BARK: EQUILIBRIUM AND KINETIC ....
A biosorbent was successfully used to extract thorium metal Th(IV) from aqueous solutions in this investigation. To conduct characterisation and extraction tests, Moringa oleifera bark was fractionated into 60-mesh particles. Th(IV) adsorption kinetics followed a pseudo second-order model, with only a slight variation between the estimated and experimental Qeq values [4.38 and 3.32 mg/g for Qeq(exp.) and Qeq(cal.), respectively]. The modified Langmuir equation 5.46 mg/g was used to compute the maximal capacity (Qmax).
