CdFe2O4 AND ZnAl2O4 NANO-SPINELS: SYNTHESIS BY SOL-GEL AUTO COMBUSTION METHOD-A PERFORMANCE STUDY...
The nanoparticles of ZnAl2O4 and CdFe2O4 were made using the sol-gel auto combustion process and analysed using XRD, FTIR, and SEM. The nanostructure of the particles was determined using XRD and validated using SEM. The synthesis approach resulted in the formation of homogeneous spinel-structured particles. ZnAl2O4 particles were smaller than CdFe2O4 particles. The nano particles' catalytic activity was tested in the catalytic wet peroxide oxidation (CWPO) of phenol from waste water. Among various catalytic oxidation procedures, the use of hydrogen peroxide as the oxidising agent in the presence of a catalyst has emerged as a clean and effective option. The results revealed that both nano-spinels had high catalytic activity in this procedure. In the CWPO procedure, ZnAl2O4 had a greater activity than CdFe2O4. Over ZnAl2O4 and CdFe2O4, phenol conversion was 84 percent and 78 percent, respectively. The study found that these catalysts could be useful in the catalytic wet peroxide oxidation (CWPO) procedure for the oxidation of various water contaminants.
