Though road transport had significant positive effects on economic activities, the low level of rail transport significantly suppressed the overall contribution of land transport and the smooth flow of goods and passengers in Nigeria, according to empirical analysis and findings from a Multiple Ordinary Least Square (MOLS) model. As a result, the low level of rail infrastructure has limited the overall influence of the transportation sector on the growth of the Nigerian economy, whereas government transportation infrastructure investment has boosted growth. The study determined that the neglect of the rail system has overburdened road travel, obliterating the potential complimentary advantages of the two modes of transportation. As a result, increasing government spending In the rail transportation sector, not only will overall economic productivity increase, but the complementary contributions of both the rail and road transportation systems in Nigeria will also increase.
