COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE GROWTH OF BUSH OKRA (Corchorus olitorius) ON THE INFLUENCE OF Jatropha ....

The effects of Jatropha curcas seed cake, chicken droppings, and NPK fertiliser on the growth and nutrient composition of Corchorus olitorius were explored in a comparative study. In a completely randomised design consisting of three fertiliser treatments at four levels, soil samples were homogenised with 1, 2, 4, and 8 g/bag of Jatropha seed cake, chicken dropping, and NPK fertiliser. Gradually, and at harvest, growth indicators were assessed. The results of the analysis of variance of the growth parameters tested revealed that fertiliser types had a significant effect (P.05) on all of the parameters except the number of branches. In the same way, fertiliser levels had a significant influence (P.05) on all of the metrics except plant height. The findings imply that applying Jatropha seed cake boosts Corchorus olitorius growth in a way that is comparable to NPK fertiliser and chicken dropping at 8 g/bag. The findings clearly suggest that Jatropha seed cake be used as an organic fertiliser source, which could be beneficial in today's organically produced food. Finally, Jatropha seed cake was found to be a good source of organic fertiliser that is comparable to chicken droppings and NPK.
