CT SCANNER AS A POWERFUL TOOL FOR MATERIALS INVESTIGATION AND CHARACTERIZATION | Journal of ......

One of the most significant challenges for microscopic imaging techniques was the inability to provide a comprehensive and unobstructed view of the entire material to be characterised, which limits the ability to determine the homogeneity of the material as well as the efficiency of the preparation protocol used. As a result, it is critical to employ computerised (or computed) tomography (CT) scanners as a powerful characterising technology for materials with a wonderful ability to recognise different changes in it with a plethora of qualitative and quantitative data for each entire sample. In this article, we discussed several significant elements that CT technology may provide to explain some ambiguous issues in the study of materials. Using this technique, we identified the ideal circumstances to complete the synthesis operation, allowing us to generate fine homogeneous material. Furthermore, using 3D modelling, this technique may sort and identify the more intensive stages. CT scans have many advantages, which can be summarised as follows: nondestructive, inexpensive, quick (2 seconds), no need for sample preparation, easy handling of data or images, ability to study as many samples as possible at the same time for comparison, 3D images can be modelled using common software.
