CYTOLOGICAL STUDIES ON THE AGARIC Termitomycetes striatus (Heim) FOUND GROWING WILD IN AHMADU BELLO
The cytology of Termitomyces striatus was investigated. Mushroom samples were collected and identified with the use of a mushroom field guide. The samples were kept in FAA to be used later. The samples were subjected to anatomical procedures and microscopic analysis at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria's Department of Veterinary Medicine. Termitomycete striatus is an aseptate fungus with no cross wall structure in the hyphae, according to photomicrographs of the findings. The differences in septal ultra structure and life cycle distinguished the two basidiomycetes taxa, Ustomycetes and true basidiomycetes. Plate 3 depicts the formal classification of fungus into Heterobasidiomycetes and Homobasidiomycetes. Homobasidiomycetes roughly correlates to the monophylectic class Agaricomyetes in contemporary taxonomy. T. striatus belongs to the Tricholomataceae family since there are no clamp connections, as seen in Plates 1–2.
