DIVERSITY, DISTRIBUTION AND UTILIZATION PATTERN OF SHRUBS OF BETALGHAT REGION (KUMAUN HIMALAYA) ...

The study was carried out to document the diversity of bushes in the Nainital district's Betalghat region (Kumaun Himalaya, India). A total of 200 species were found in the research region, divided into 144 genera and 50 families. Fabaceae, Lamiaceae, Apocynaceae, Rosaceae, Malvaceae, Rhamnaceae, Rhamnaceae, Solanaceae, Acanthaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Oleaceae, Phyllanthaceae, Urticaceae, Asparagaceae, Rubiaceae, and Rutaceae were the most common families. In the altitudinal zones (1001-1300m), (1600-1800m), respectively, the largest and least number of species were reported. Fodder (130), medicinal (78), edible (56), fuel (50), ornamental (22), fibre (18), religious (12), bio-insecticides, cow padding (4), fish poison (3), and broom manufacturing were among the many uses listed for the region's species (2). Vernacular and botanical names, habitat preference, altitudinal range (m), flowering and fruiting season, and usage patterns were all supplied for each species. This research is useful for assessing the composition of species and their patterns of use, as well as developing conservation and management plans.
