EFFECT OF BORAX ON AGGREGATION BEHAVIOR OF SURFACTANT IN AQUEOUS HYDROXYPROPYLCELLULOSE (HPC).....
The interaction of the Hydroxypropylcellulose (HPC) polymer with surfactants Sodiumdodecyl sulphate (SDS) and tetra dodecyl triammonium bromide (TTAB) in dilute aqueous solution in the presence of borax is reported in this study. The results of the tensiometric and conductometric experiments are used to examine the interaction. At increasing polymer concentrations, the results show that surfactant molecules prefer to micellize individually rather than forming a complex or mixed micelle in the HPC-SDS solution system. The paper also discusses the influence of the presence of borax in the polymer-surfactant system, specifically on the nature of micelles.
