EFFECT OF FOOD TYPE ON TOLERANCE OF Callosobruchus maculatus FROM DIFFERENT GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATIONS..
Insecticide reaction has been shown to be influenced by both biotic and abiotic variables. Under laboratory conditions of 282°C and 755 percent relative humidity, the effect of food type and geographic location on Callosobruchus maculatus tolerance to oil extract of Fagara zanthoxyloides was investigated. The insects were collected from four separate states in Nigeria's south-western area and fed cowpea varieties Ife-Brown and IT96-610. The effect of the oil extract on the adult insect's survival, oviposition rate, and emergence varied depending on the type of diet and geographic location. The insect fed IT96-610 proved to be more tolerant of F. zanthoxyloides oil (P = 0.05), and insects from Osun state were likewise more tolerant of the oil extract than those from the other three sites. According to regression analysis, the amount of oil extract necessary to kill 50 to 95 percent of C. maculatus varies depending on the type of food and geographical region.
