EFFECT OF MOISTURE CONTENT ON SPEARMINT (Mentha spicata var. viridis L.) OIL CONSTITUENTS | Journal

The experiment was carried out to see how moisture content affected the composition of spearmint oil. Plants taken from completely ripe spearmint (Mentha spicata var. Viridis). Freshly harvested plants (74.3 percent moisture), semi-dried over-night plants (48.2 percent moisture), and fully dried plants under shade for 5 days were also tested (3.6 percent moisture). Water distillation was used to extract spearmint oil according to British Pharmacopoeia standards. The oil composition was determined by GC/MS. The findings revealed that spearmint oil includes 25 distinct compounds, which varied substantially depending on the herb's moisture status.
