ELECTROCHEMICAL STUDY OF THE CORROSION BEHAVIOR OF MILD STEEL WITH ZINC COMPLEX OF 1-(8-hydroxy.....
The mass loss method was used to analyse the corrosion inhibiting behaviour of Zinc complex of 1-(8-hydroxy quinolin-2yl-methyl) thiourea (Zn-HTF) on mild steel immersed in an aqueous solution containing 60 ppm Cl-. The corrosion inhibition efficacy of 50 ppm Zn-HTF is 80 percent. Corrosion inhibition was seen on the mild steel surface due to the creation of a more stable and compact protective coating. The effect of the inhibitor on mild steel corrosion was investigated using polarisation studies and electrochemical impedance spectra. The surface film was characterised using Fourier transform infrared and UV-Visible spectroscopy. Fluorescence spectra identified an iron-inhibitor complex that completely coated the mild steel surface. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray analysis were used to examine the morphology of inhibited and uninhibited mild steel (EDAX). Certain microorganisms cannot grow in the presence of Zn-HTF.
