ELECTROCHROMIC GLASS FROM SOLUTIONS OF METAL EXTRACTS | Journal of Applied Chemical Science Inter..
Wet method was used to create thin films for electrochromic cells. We employed the extraction-pyrolysis approach, which entails extracting significant components from aqueous solutions of inorganic salts, combining the liquid extracts in a predetermined ratio, and depositing metal extracts (In, Sn, Ni) on glass, followed by thermal disintegration of wet films. The wetting-pyrolysis cycles are repeated numerous times to get the desired thickness of the film. As electrodes and liquid electrolyte, an electrochromic cell consists of a transparent conductive In2O3 / SnO2 (indium tin oxide, ITO) film on glass and an electrochromic film NiO on ITO–glass. In the presence of a quasi-solid electrolyte, the resulting NiO electrochromic electrode paired with the counter-electrode sustained more than 500 cycles of discoloration–staining without affecting the intensity of the colour.
