EVALUATION OF PROTEIN AND ANTINUTRITIONAL COMPOUNDS CONTENT IN MEAL FROM SEVEN FLAX VARIETIES ......
Protein content and antinutritional chemical concentrations were measured in flaxseed meal from seven different kinds. Flax seeds were collected from plants that had been grown in two experimental fields for two years (2011-2012). Flaxseed meal was shown to be a high-protein source in all kinds (35.7 percent mean content). The concentration of antinutritional chemicals differed significantly between cultivars and years of culture, according to ANOVA. The concentrations of cyanogenic glycosides and phytic acid in flaxseed meal, which are 0.73 and 5.3 gkg1 of dry weight, respectively, are worth noting. These findings suggest that flaxseed meal can be used as a protein source in animal feed or as a food additive, but that the levels of these two antinutritional factors should be reduced.
