The purpose of this study was to see if there were any gender differences in the personalities of institutionalised orphans, non-institutionalized orphans, and non-orphan adolescents.
The research design is a between-groups design.
Sample: The study included 240 adolescents (120 men and 120 females) between the ages of 13 and 19, who were separated into three groups: non orphans (n=80), institutionalised orphans (n=80), and non institutionalised orphans (n=80). Institutionalized orphans were taken from five institutions in Lahore, Pakistan. Non orphaned and non institutionalised orphans were drawn from twelve different schools.

In the Non Orphan group, there is also a substantial gender difference in emotional unresponsiveness, with females being more emotionally unresponsive than males. In the Institutionalized Orphan group, there is a considerable gender difference in emotional instability, with females being more emotionally unstable than men. In the Institutionalized Orphan group, there is also a substantial gender difference in negative world view, with males having a more negative world view than females.
