HEAVY METALS AND NUTRIENT STATUS OF SURFACE WATER QUALITY AROUND SAGBAMA CREEK, BAYELSA STATE....
The purpose of this study was to determine the heavy metal and nutrient quality of surface water in the Sagbama Creek, Bayelsa State, Nigeria. Water samples were collected, preserved with trioxonitrate (v), and transported to the laboratory in an ice cooler. For both River water samples and control samples, results were compared with both control and standard permissible limits for the following parameters: nutrients such as sulphate (69.296.27 and 5.0453), nitrate (3.202.85 and 2.601.52), phosphate (0.480.19 and 0.430.44), ammonium (1.782.40 and 0.460.42); heavy metals such as Mn (0.440.42 and 0.070.0588), Cu (0.0 Except for ammonium ion, all results were below or below permitted limits for surface water, DPR, or FMENV, although the presence of water microorganisms suggested water pollution. As a result, the urgent requirement to reduce direct defecation in water bodies around the research site becomes a necessity.
