HYDROTHERMAL SYNTHESIS OF SnO2 NANOPOWDERS AND THEIR PHOTOCATALYTIC PROPERTIES | Journal of ......
A simple hydrothermal process was used to create nano-sized SnO2 powders without the need of a surfactant. The samples were examined using an X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), a scanning electron microscope (SEM), and a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. Acid Red B was utilised as simulated dye effluent to evaluate the photocatalytic characteristics of the materials. The results showed that SnO2 exhibits a tetragonal phase with cell parameters a=b=4.738 14'c=3.187. The sample particles are spherical in form and have a diameter of about 25 nm. The photocatalytic activity of the as-synthesized SnO2 powders is outstanding. The decolorization rate can approach 100% when the dosage is 0.4 g/L, UV light is utilised as the irradiation source, and the reaction period is 120 minutes.
