INVESTIGATION OF INDUSTRIAL WASTEWATER MANAGEMENT CONDITION BASED ON WASTEWATER ORGANIC POLLUTION...
The features of industrial wastewater were researched using an Environmental Protection Organization of Iran questionnaire, as well as visits to industrial plants and interviews. All industries and mining organisations were divided into eleven groups in the data set. There were 283 industries in this region with more than 50 employees; for this study, fifty industries were chosen using a categorised weighted selection approach.
These 50 industries created an average wastewater flow rate of 9422 m3/day, with an average volume of wastewater generated per capita of around e 437 litres per day. Non-metallic mining industries had the lowest organic loading, with COD of 205 mg/L and BOD of 85 mg/L. The paper industry had the highest COD rate of 8800 mg/L, while the food and medicine industries had the highest BOD rate of 1536 mg/L.
All ten industries were classified from most polluted to least polluting based on generated COD, BOD loading, and wastewater load per capita, with 1 being the least polluting and 10 being the most polluting. Paper industries were found to be a substantial source of pollution in the industrial district of west Tehran, with an overall score of 28 in the three aforementioned metrics. Nonmetallic industry, on the other hand, was judged to be the least polluting industry, with an overall score of 5.
