JOHN PASSMORE ON MAN’S RESPONSIBILITY FOR NATURE: IMPLICATIONS FOR DEFORESTATION IN NIGERIA .....

In today's Nigeria, environmental issues are surfacing, and little or nothing is being done to address them. This paper is based on John Passmore's book Man's Responsibility for Nature: Implications for Nigerian Deforestation. Deforestation, according to this study, is defined as the long-term loss of tree cover below the criteria of 10%. The work also reveals Passmore's viewpoint, which is that man should regard himself as a steward of nature and, as a result, should not adopt a tyrannical attitude toward nature, but rather should garden it. The subject addressed in this essay is that of human-environment relations, which are claimed to be dictatorial. As a result, the book examines the subject of deforestation in Nigeria, as well as its origins and consequences. To gain a better knowledge of the issue of deforestation in Nigeria and the implications of Passmore's stance on man's duty for nature on the issue of deforestation in Nigeria, the work used the critical analysis technique. As a result, the paper suggests that Nigerians accept Passmore's concept of the man-nature relationship, in which man is nothing more than a steward who should care for nature as God does for man.
