LABORATORY BIOASSAYS FOR PHYSICAL AND ODOUR PREFERENCES IN MANGO STONE WEEVIL (Sternochetus mangi...

The mango stone weevil, Sternochetus mangiferae Fab, was studied in the lab for some physical and smell preferences (Coleoptera: Curculionidae). For the investigations, 510 mature weevils were recovered from the stones of fruits harvested in Ejura, Ghana's Ashanti region. Fresh mango blooms were shown to be the most appealing plant portion to S. mangiferae. The researchers also discovered that black attracted the weevil more than other colours (P.05). Weevils have also been observed to respond to their host plants using various forms and colour combinations, despite no significant differences in the quantity of weevils attracted when the colours were given in a pyramid shape. The findings imply that the weevil's foraging activities are influenced by colour backdrop and smell signals, and the ramifications of this were examined.
