MATHEMATICS ACHIEVEMENT DIFFERENCES BETWEEN WHITE AND HISPANIC STUDENTS | Journal of Global Researc
For the 2004-2005 through the 2010-2011 school years, we studied 7 years of Grade 11 Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills Mathematics exit test scores for White and Hispanic students to determine the extent to which economic and ethnic inequalities existed. White kids who were not economically disadvantaged outperformed Hispanic pupils who were not economically disadvantaged over the course of seven school years. Over the course of seven years, the accomplishment gap has progressively narrowed. In this study, it was discovered that economically poor Hispanic pupils had greater mathematics results for all 7 school years than economically disadvantaged White students. The effect sizes were minor to moderate. Despite the fact that the achievement disparity between White and Hispanic pupils has narrowed over time, more work remains.
