NEUTRALIZATION OF DYEING INDUSTRY WASTEWATER AND SLUDGE BY FIXATION OF POLLUTANTS IN VERY HIGH .....

Treatment of pH 7.5 dyeing industry effluent using very high quality zeolitic tuff and coagulants resulted in clear pH 7.2 water that was odour-free and enhanced quality attributes (colour, suspended particles, COD: Chemical Oxygen Demand, P2O5, NO3-, Cr) by 74 to 98 percent. In terms of COD, Cr, and NO3-, the very high quality zeolitic tuff is 3 to 60% more effective than the coagulants. Sludge (with coagulants) and zeo-sludge were formed as a result of the treatments (using very high quality zeolitic tuff and coagulants). The zeo-sludge has no odour and is quite cohesive. Sludge leaching by deionized water yielded quality features of up to 100 percent, while zeo-sludge leaching yielded much lower results (only up to 18 percent ). The fixing of contaminants such as NO3- and Cr by the very high grade zeolitic tuff was demonstrated by the chemical composition of seepage water from the zeo-sludge.
