PERFORMANCE OF THIRTY VARIETIES OF COWPEA (Vigna unguiculata L. WALP) IN ANYIGBA ENVIRONMENT OF ....

Thirty cowpea cultivars were cultivated during the 2016 rainy season to examine their relative performance in the Anyigba habitat. The number of branches generated per plant did not differ considerably according on the variety, but the days to first flower and 50% flowering did. Varieties differed considerably (P0.05) in seed yield per hectare, number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod, pod yield, and pod length. IT89KD288 produced the maximum seed production of 1147 kg/ha. However, the yields obtained with Ife-Brown (920 kg/ha), Sampea-4 (1027 kg/ha), Dippa (733 kg/ha), and Tchad (706 kg/ha) were not statistically different. Even while the performance of some types was marginally better than others, it was not found to be statistically significant at the 5% level of probability. Seed yield had positive and non-significant correlations with number of seeds per pod, number of pods per plant, pod length, number of branches per plant, days to first flower, and days to 50% flower, according to the association characters.
