PERTINENCE OF SOCIAL CAPITAL IN THE ENHANCEMENT OF COCOA PRODUCTION IN SANTCHOU, CAMEROON | Journal
Another new stylized truth in promoting agriculture is the role of social capital. The study's goal is to look at the role of social capital in increasing cocoa output and to figure out what problems cocoa farmers in Santchou face. Methodologically, we employed Multiple Correspondence Analyses to create a social capital index using primary data obtained in the Santchou cocoa zone, and the probit model was used to calculate regression estimates. The findings demonstrated a substantial link between social capital and cocoa production, with education, gender, marital status, financial position, farming experience, family size, and agricultural training all highly correlating with social capital variables. Furthermore, farm size, education level, and agricultural input application are also factors to consider. The key issues encountered by cocoa growers in Santchou were identified to include pesticides and fertilisers, modern equipment, climate change, access to financing, and land tenure system. We propose that cocoa farmers' social networks be enhanced so that they may quickly obtain assistance when needed.
