POTENTIAL OF BALSAM (Impatiens balsamina) ESSENTIAL OIL, AGAINST THE CORROSION OF CARBON STEEL .....
Many strategies exist to prevent or postpone metal material corrosion; nevertheless, using inhibitors is one of the most effective ways to ensure their protection when exposed to aggressive media such as hydrochloric acid. Inhibitors can now be found in oil and plant extracts, ensuring excellent ecological efficiency at a lower cost. These inhibitors are biodegradable and do not contain heavy metals or hazardous chemicals. The majority of contributions published in the literature during the last decade on the use of oil and plant extracts as a corrosion inhibitor in hydrochloric acid are summarised in this publication. The oil extract from impatient Balsamina leaves was prepared to discover the most active component of its contents, which contributes the most to corrosion inhibition. The results revealed a significant increase in CS resistance in HCl medium. The influence of several variables (concentration, temperature, and immersion period) on Balsam inhibition efficiency was investigated. The results demonstrate that adding Balsam to the aggressive solution slows the corrosion process and that inhibitory efficiency rises as inhibitor concentration increases.
