REVIEW ON THE EFFECT OF LEVEL OF NITROGEN ON GROWTH AND YIELD OF ONION IN ETHIOPIA | Journal of ...

The onion (Allium cepa L.) is a vegetable that belongs to the Alliaceae family and is the most frequently grown species of the genus Allium. Onion production and productivity are governed by a number of factors. One of the things that influences onion output is the amount of nitrogen fertiliser used. In this regard, the goal of this review study was to examine the impact of various nitrogen levels on onion development and yield. Onions are used for a range of medical purposes. Nitrogen is included in a variety of vital plant components. Nitrogen is required for the formation of chlorophyll, proteins, and is a component of many amino acids and other compounds required for plant growth and other nitrogenous plant components such as nucleic acid and chlorophyll. Nitrogen is also required for plant glucose use. In addition, results from various climatic locations around the world demonstrate that onions respond differently to nitrogen application. Onion has a high nitrogen need, particularly in the early stages of growth, as increasing the level of N increased the growth trend of the number of leaves, leaf length, and plant body. The application of nitrogen fertiliser enhanced onion bulb output considerably, according to several researcher findings.
