SEED PHYSIOLOGICAL MATURATION TO FIX THE OPTIMUM TIME OF HARVEST IN PIGEONPEA (Cajanus cajan L.) ...
The study of physiological maturity revealed that seeds reached physiological maturity 35 days after 50% flowering, and the visual symptom of pod maturation was observed as the pod colour changed from dark green with purple streaks to brownish colour, with the same colour changes observed in both seasons. The dry weight of the seed was highest 35 days after 50% flowering, which corresponded to pod maturation in both seasons. During the Kharif and summer seasons, seed moisture content was 12.0%, with germination rates of 96 and 93 percent, respectively. In terms of physiological seed quality characteristics, Kharif was superior to summer.
