SOCIO-ECONOMIC CONTRIBUTION OF AGROFORESTRY TREES/SHRUBS IN YAYU COFFEE FOREST BIOSPHERE RESERVE....
Agroforestry is the intentional incorporation of trees and shrubs into crop and livestock production systems in order to achieve environmental, economic, and social benefits. Various research focused on floristic variety and ecology of agroforestry methods for household food and nutrition security have been conducted in the country, but not for socio-economic factors. As a result, the goal of this study was to determine the socioeconomic value of agroforestry species in the Yayu Coffee Forest biosphere reserve. A total of 268 families were systematically selected from four districts (Bilo Nopa, Yayu, Dorani, and Chora), and an agroforestry species inventory was conducted alongside a socio-economic survey using a standardised questionnaire. The socioeconomic contributions of agroforestry species were investigated using STATA software and logit regression analysis. A total of 65 agroforestry species were discovered, divided into 41 groups. The findings of the linear regression analysis revealed that land ownership, education, non-timber forest product income, family size, and livestock are the most important factors influencing farmers' decisions to plant trees in the research area. Overall, this research shows that agroforestry species have an impact on inhabitants' livelihoods, and agroforestry practises in the Yayu coffee forest biosphere reserve are heavily influenced by socioeconomic factors.
