SPATIAL AND TEMPORAL CHARACTERISTICS OF REFERENCEEVAPOTRANSPIRATION IN AMHARA REGION, NORTHERN .....

In most regions of the world, the FAO Penman-Monteith equation is used to estimate reference evapotranspiration (ETo). This method necessitates the use of complete weather data from all major stations. To calculate ETo, we used 25 major Amhara stations. Furthermore, we used Penman-Monteith as a standard to test Hargreaves, Thornthwaite, and Blaney-Criddle methodologies to compute ETo in order to select the optimum ETo estimation model for the region. Hargreaves model can be used safely among the tested techniques, according to statistical analysis of the results of these models. As a result, this model was calibrated, and empirical coefficients for calculating ETo were calculated at each of the temperature stations. Finally, a thin-plate smoothing splines interpolation method based on 44 stations is used to create an ISO-ETo map for the Amhara region. Water resource planning, irrigation scheduling, irrigation scheme design, and hydrological studies in the Amhara region can all benefit from this research.
