SPECTROSCOPIC STUDIES OF NEWLY SYNTHESISED CU(II) COMPLEXES OF FURFURAL ISONICOTINOYL HYDRAZONE.....
Copper(II) coordination complexes with furfural isonicotinoyl hydrazone (FINH): [Cu(FINH)(H2O)Cl](a), [Cu(FINH)(NO3)2]. [Cu(FINH)(CH3COO)2], H2O(b). [Cu(FINH)(SO4)] and H2O(c). Elemental analyses, magnetic susceptibility measurements, IR, EPR, and UV-Visible absorption spectroscopy were used to characterise 3H2O(d). The ligand, FINH, loses a proton and hence exhibits enolic coordination in the chloride complex (a), whereas FINH demonstrates entirely via keto coordination in the complexes (b), (c), and (d). The complexes' insolubility in most common solvents, including DMSO, DMF, ethanol, methanol, and benzene, suggests that they are non-electrolytic. Spectroscopic and magnetic susceptibility measurements have revealed that the Cu(II) complexes have square planar geometries.
