STUDIES ON LENGTH-WEIGHT, WIDTH-WEIGHT RELATIONSHIPS AND CONDITION FACTORS OF Sudanonautes africanus
The purpose of this study was to investigate the length-weight, width-weight, and condition parameters in male and female Sudanonautes africanus freshwater crabs taken from the Osun River embankment in Ikere Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria. Females were found to be more abundant (63 percent) than males in the collections (37 percent ). Positive linear relationships were found for both sexes in all of the relationships determined, and an overall analysis of all of the relationships determined for each sex revealed that the regression coefficients 'b' were not different between the sexes, with positive allometric patterns found for both males and females (b>3 in all). However, there were differences in the correlation tests between the sexes, with males having greater condition factors in all of the parameters evaluated. Sudanonautes africanus was shown to be a good candidate for commercial crab farming in this study.
