SUBSTITUTED QUINOLINES AS SYNTHONS OF POLYNUCLEAR HETEROCYCLES: AN OVERVIEW | Journal of Applied...

Quinoline derivatives are of chemical interest. They are simple to synthesis and are amenable to further substitution, cyclization, and ring transformation. The importance of quinoline derivation to obtain other polynuclear heterocycles-containing quinoline originates from the fact that quinoline alone plays no role in fundamental metabolism, although its fused systems, such as furo, pyrrolo, indolo, and so on, are well-known metabolites. This review focuses on the most recent applications of quinoline derivatives as synthons of various polynuclear heterocycles.
