SULPHURIC ACID CORROSION OF MILD STEEL IN THE STEM EXTRACTS OF Cnidoscolus aconitifolius PLANT ....
Cnidoscolus aconitifolius stem extracts containing alkaloids and nonalkaloids were found to be mild steel corrosion inhibitors in 2.0 M H2SO4. The influence on mild steel corrosion in H2SO4 solutions is investigated using traditional weight loss measurements and the Tafel polarisation technique. Both plant extracts are good corrosion inhibitors, according to the weight reduction results. The results of electrochemical polarisation showed a heterogeneous manner of inhibition. The significant adsorption of active molecules leading to the creation of a protective layer on the mild steel surface is suggested by the increase in percent IE with change in extract concentration. Both stem extracts adsorption was shown to match the Langmuir adsorption isotherm model.
