SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF MULTI-RESPONSIVE NANO-SIZED HYDROGEL BASED ON ..........

Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and dynamic light scattering (DLS) methods were used to produce and evaluate multi-responsive nano-sized hydrogel composites based on N-isopropylacrylamide, acrylic acid, and magnetite. The average size of the produced nanoparticles was found to be around 100 nm, depending on the temperature and pH value. When heated over 32°C or the pH value is changed below 4, synthesised hydrogel nanoparticles purified by diafiltration show a clear phase transition between swelling and collapsed states. The model drug for releasing stadies was methylene blue (photosensitizer for photodynamic treatment). At temperatures exceeding phase transition, the release of Methylene Blue from nanogel was considerably accelerated. This would allow tailored hydrogel nanoparticles to be used in drug delivery systems, particularly in cancer treatment.
