SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF THE COMPLEXES OF ISOVALERIC ACID HYDRAZIDE WITH M (II) NITRATES ..

Isovaleric acid hydrazide (IVH) complexes with M (II) nitrates (M = Co, Ni, and Cu) have been produced. Melting point and IR studies were used to characterise the ligand, whereas melting point, conductance, IR, and electronic Spectral studies were used to characterise the complexes. Antimicrobial activity was tested on the ligand, complexes, and metal salts. Co2+, Ni2+, and Cu2+ complexes have octahedral coordination, according to the electronic data. The ligand's bidentate coordination can be detected using infrared spectrum data. The carbonyl oxygen atom and the main amino nitrogen atom work together to form a bond. In the outer coordination sphere, the NO3- and Cl- anions are found. Complexes showed minimal activity with some bacteria and insignificant activity with others when compared to metal salts, with the exception of [Ni (IVH)2](NO3)2.H2O, which showed strong activity against Staph. aureus and E. coli. The complexes' non-electrolytic character is indicated by conductivity investigations, but their high melting/decomposition temperature shows that they are polymeric.
