Acyloins were oxidised efficiently by air while supported and catalysed by silica gel, yielding high yields of -diketones. The reaction is solvent-free and safe for the environment, and the silica is directly recovered and reused. Both the reaction temperature and the amount of silica gel used in the experiment were tested. Benzils, heterocyclic benzils, polycyclic benzyl, and aliphatic -diketones were among the 14 examples found with isolated yields ranging from 89 to 96 percent.
