THE ANTIFUNGAL ACTIVITY OF Senna alata LEAF EXTRACT ON DERMATOPHYTES | Journal of Applied .....

Senna alata, a member of the febaceae family, is a prominent ethno-medicinal plant. The plant's laxative and antifungal effects have made it popular in traditional medicine. The antifungal activity of Senna alata leaf against Trichophyton mentagrophytes and Trichophyton verrucosum was examined in this study. The goal of this study was to determine the level of antifungal activity of Senna alata leaf on dermatophytes like Trichophyton mentagrophytes and Trichophyton verrucosum. The antibacterial activity was tested using the cup plate method after the extract was produced with methanol and ethanol. The crude extracts of Senna alata Linn in ethanol and methanol at concentrations of 0.7 mg/ml, 0.9 mg/ml, 1 mg/ml, 2 g/ml, and 3 g/ml showed no antifungal activity against the test dermatophytes Trichophyton mentagrophytes and Trichophyton verrucosum. The extracts contained saponins, flavonoids, steroids, terpenoids, and glycosides, but no tannins or alkaloids, according to the phytochemical study. Despite tremendous advances in microbiology and microbe control, the infrequent occurrence of epidemics caused by resistant germs poses a substantial threat to public health. To alleviate the issue, more emphasis should be placed on the usage of medicinal herbs having antibacterial properties.
