THE RESPONSE OF SAL (Shorea robusta Gaertn.) FORESTS UNDER DISTURBANCE REGIMES IN UTTARAKHAND.....
We researched the Sal Mixed Moist Deciduous Forest in Uttarakhand over a disturbance gradient, and found that tree diversity had a negative association with disturbance. The largest diversity in shrub and herb layers was found in the moderately disturbed forest zone, indicating that moderate disturbance conditions enhance shrub and herb species diversity. The study also discovered that Mallotus philippensis has a random distribution in the Undisturbed Sal forest, indicating that it has the least social interaction with other species. A scientific examination of the status of Mallotus philippensis in the Sal forest is recommended. Furthermore, additional scientific research was needed to determine the impact of disturbances and develop appropriate policies and action strategies for restoring ecological processes and fostering natural succession in sal dominated forest ecosystems.
