The development of porous silica-alumina refractory insulating firebricks from silica-sand and recycled alumina mixes is looked at. To make the pores, expanded perlite and sawdust were used. When expanded perlite is added to a refractory, it results in a mechanically stronger refractory (FS: 36.7 MPa) with less porosity (p: 35.8%) than a refractory containing sawdust (FS: 29.7 MPa; p: 45.8 percent ). The reduced thermal conductivities (0.53 W/mK) of the latter constitute a distinguishing feature. Because it is dependent on the density and elastic qualities of the material, the creation of cracks reduces the velocity of ultrasonic pulses travelling through the refractory. The thermal shock resistance of the samples demonstrates their capacity to survive fast temperature changes. Toughness analysis, nitrogen adsorption, and surface area were among the qualities investigated.
